Installing Beam Style Seating In An Auditorium

Posted on November 22, 2020 at 1:05 AM

Beam Seating: An Introduction

If you’ve been to an auditorium, you would’ve noticed the unique seating style which consists of row after row of seats attached to a single beam that runs underneath. This is known as Beam Seating or bench seating because of its resemblance to benches. Any auditorium chair manufacturer will recommend beam seating because it is the most brilliant way to accommodate a large number of chairs in one big area.

Attributes to look for in auditorium chairs

It is a well-known fact that public and school furniture take a real beating during their lifetime. Besides, not all people are careful with auditorium seating, which is why beam seating happens to be the best option that can stand up to heavy wear and tear. Not all beam seating is built the same. If you are looking to install this method of seating, make sure the seats tick off three important attributes:

1.Seats that are easy to clean

You wouldn’t want your auditorium seats to retain the stains of a carelessly spilt coffee or juice. There are some stains that will simply not budge despite a repeated number of cleanings. The only way to overcome this challenge is to opt for specially formulated, high-impact polyethylene which can chemically resist any kind of spill.

2.Robust beams and connectors

When it comes to auditorium seating, it is advisable to work on a flexible budget that will let you choose the most durable material that will last for many years. Experts recommend beam seating that is fabricated from 14 gauge tubular steel and seat supports made of 11 gauge tubular steel.

3.Flexible features

Seating is not the same throughout the entire auditorium. There are rows with a dozen seats or spots that need only two seats. There are also rows with 4 or 5 seats. Flexible configurability is an important asset that facilitates multiple options such as freestanding units, divider tables and divider arms.

Beam seating installation

Beam seating is a foolproof method of seating because the entire row of seats is anchored securely to the floor of the auditorium. This ensures equal distribution of the weight across the beam and because the row is secured to the floor, there is no chance of the seats tipping backwards and injuring the users.

Pre-installation cleaning and prepping of the area is a mandatory procedure because the auditorium floor must be devoid of all debris that will be a hindrance to the installation process. Even a single piece of debris under the framework will make the entire row unstable.

The framework should be placed in the proper position and the bolt patterns should be marked on the floor. These markings will allow you to pre-drill holes in the exact spot where the legs will be fixed. The holes should be a tad smaller than the bolt that will be used so that the bolt grips the frame and keeps it firmly in place. To ensure that you’ve done a good job, ask for expert opinion and make the necessary changes that they recommend.
